Gold for Kids celebrates being named a finalist at Private Dentistry Awards

  • Post category:News

We are thrilled to announce that Gold for Kids has been chosen as a finalist for the prestigious Private Dentistry Awards.

The Private Dentistry Awards recognises outstanding dentistry carried out by teams and individuals – and is judged independently by the profession.  Gold for Kids is a finalist in the Charity or Community project category.

Founders Dr Leticia Casanova and Dr David Holmes, directors of London Periodontics, Implants and Dentistry, realised the potential of the waste resources when they set up their dental practice back in 2013. They then set up Gold for Kids in 2018.

Many patients are unaware that their discarded dental restorations actually belong to them, because they originally paid for them – and they have a say in what happens to them.  While the amount of a single crown or bridge may seem less significant when measured individually, when different dental clinics across the country collect all their unwanted metal together in our Gold for Kids collection pots, it quickly adds up.

Dr David Holmes said:

“When we started our practice we felt empowered to change the old ways and do what’s right, give the patients a voice and a choice to donate what belongs to them to underprivileged children through our charity Gold For Kids.  There were 4.2 million children living in poverty in the UK in 2021-22. That’s 29 per cent of children or nine in a classroom of 30.”

In just five years, Gold For Kids has generated nearly £50k in cash and has so far donated funds to children’s charities that specifically address poverty amongst children in the UK, like the NSPCC, Barnardos and Transforming Lives for Good, with Child Poverty Action Group and others soon to benefit from the results of our most recent fundraiser.

The  Private Dentistry Awards will take place on Friday 1st December at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London.  We would like to congratulate all finalists and wish them the best of luck.
