When your jar’s full, sterilise the scrap, bag it and post it to us. Most donors cover postage as part of their gift. It’s easy, quick, and makes a big difference.

Gold for Kids is one hundred per cent volunteer led and run, and nobody draws a salary from donations. In line with sustainable practice, we hold back a small percentage of each melt to cover the cost of running the charity and bringing more practices in. Everything else goes out in grants to UK children’s charities.

WHO CAN DONATE?

Anyone. Whether you’re part of a dental practice, a lab, or a member of the public with some old jewellery to spare—your donation makes a difference.

WHAT CAN I DONATE?

We accept dental scrap containing precious metals (crowns, inlays, etc.) and all kinds of unwanted jewellery—even broken pieces. If it contains gold, silver, platinum or palladium, we can use it.

HOW IS THE MONEY USED?

We hold back a small percentage of each melt to cover the cost of running the charity and bringing more practices in. Everything else goes out in grants to UK charities helping children in poverty, crisis or hardship. Our grant committee decides each autumn, and we tell every donor exactly which charities received what.

CAN I CHOOSE WHICH CHARITY MY DONATION GOES TO?

Not directly—but we promise your donation will go to a trusted children’s charity that aligns with our mission. We fund a small group of carefully selected partners.

HOW MUCH GOLD DO WE NEED TO COLLECT TO MAKE A MEANINGFUL CONTRIBUTION?

Even a small number of restorations can add up to a significant donation. Collecting just a few crowns or inlays each month can generate meaningful contributions over time We melt twice a year, at the end of January and the end of July, so whatever is in the jar by then goes into the next round of grants.

CAN OUR PRACTICE PROMOTE OUR INVOLVEMENT TO PATIENTS?

Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it.

Patients love knowing their dental practice is doing something meaningful with materials that would otherwise go to waste. We can provide posters, social media templates, and a short script you can use at reception or in emails to let patients know how their old crowns or unwanted jewellery could help a child in need. It’s a simple, powerful way to build trust—and do good together.

HOW DO I SEND IN A DONATION?

Sterilise the scrap, pop it in a sterilisation bag and then a padded envelope with your packing slip, and post it to Gold for Kids, c/o LPID, 19 Wimpole Street, London, W1G 8GE. The Send Scrap page has the full steps and a printable label. Then let us know it’s on the way.

CAN I DONATE CASH INSTEAD?

IS THIS JUST FOR DENTISTS?

Not at all. Dental teams play a big part—but many of our supporters are members of the public who donate old jewellery or help spread the word.
